Winter Education Project - Be a host and support Global Awareness

WHAT IS WINTER EDUCATION?

Skrevet av Alex Dodge, 20. nov. kl. 16:48 (1)

Of course this is a forum for discussion and not advertisement. But what if it was both.

On Janauary 16th six volunteer students are coming from around the world to hold workshops at middle schools and youth clubs about tolerence, human rights, and cultural understanding? They will be here for 6 weeks going from school to school, youth club to youth club.

Why hold such a project? Trondheim is becoming a more and more international city. With students that come here from around the world, international buisnesses that send people abroad and abroad to Trondheim. Immigration population grows by the day - and more and more international cultural activites are taking place. So when we think in these terms then we should consider what kind of relationship future generations will have to these international changes? AIESEC Trondheim, the organization I volunteer for, works on creating exchange between 110 different countries through community development projects and internships. The idea is that students are given the oppurtunity to realize a new experience and oppuntunities, to develop their leadership and teambuilding activities in an international enviroment.

My project, Winter Education, is doing the same thing - but bringing culture to the classrooms and giving young people a chance to develop their expeirence and global awareness. Is this an initiative that needs to be taken here in Norway? Should young people be more globally aware? If so, what does it mean to be globally aware? What are the students role in working in our community to develop such goals?

In addition

We need hosts for the participants of this project. Being a host is a good way to support the global awareness among youth initiative. We have 6 students coming to Trondheim between 16. Janaury and 22. February.

Providing a place for a student for 2 to 4 weeks to sleep would help us realize this project. The students are occupied from 8am to 6pm during the weekdays. We can provide madrasses and bed sheets for the student. Providing meals is very helpful but not required.
