Pride Screening: Totally F**ed Up (1993)
What do you do when you're young, queer, angry, in love, and fairly certain that no adult has any idea what's going on? Totally F***ed Up is Greg Araki's raw, funny, and heartbreaking portrait of six teenagers trying to figure out life, one existential crisis at a time.
Made on a low budget and shot with a deliberately rough DIY aesthetic, Totally F***ed Up marked the beginning of Greg Araki's iconic “Teen Apocalypse Trilogy”. The film paints an intimate portrait of queer youth in the early 1990s, filled with romance, frustration, pop culture, outrageous humor, and the feeling that the world might end before finals. Equal parts coming-of-age story and time capsule, it's a film that refuses to apologize for itself.
