Jazzy night: Sunsei, Nikolai Hansli Quartet and BYGE
Join us for a jazzy Thursday night at Skala! This autumn’s genre night introduces you to three different expressions of the jazz phenomenon. What exactly is it? For some, the genre is intimidating, while for others, it is the sound of life itself. In short, it’s a bit of everything! The evening offers free tasters of a wide variety of styles; perhaps you’ll find a new favorite? In collaboration with Foreningen Norden and with support from Fri fond, we are thrilled to present you THIS line-up:

Sunsei:
Sunsei is an Oslo-based band navigating a groovy musical landscape that blends neo-soul, pop, and jazz. Their music is characterized by warm tones, driving rhythms, and a sound that shifts between the playful and the vulnerable.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Fieh, Joni Mitchell, and Hiatus Kaiyote, the band places a strong emphasis on interplay, improvisation, and compelling songwriting. Driven by a shared musical curiosity, they quickly developed a sound that felt both honest and uniquely their own—one where groove and improvisation form the foundation for an open, vibrant soundscape.

Nikolai Hansli Quartet brings classic jazz standards back to life with their album Why We Continue!
BYGE:
BYGE is a jazz sextet originating from the Bergen jazz scene, led by vocalist and composer Hanna Hærum. Driven by their curiosity and inspiration by their Western Norwegian surroundings, the group juxtaposes harmony and unpredictability within a purely acoustic setting. From enthusiastic outbursts to intimate vocals and airy sonic landscapes, BYGE invites the listener into their unique universe.
Fueled by a mix of frustration and joy, BYGE also brings along their brand-new debut album, “Peace Of Mind”.
