Breakfast meeting: Soundscapes in nature - human experience and impacts on wildlife
Norway is renowned for its natural beauty and unspoilt landscapes. However, the expansion of transportation infrastructure, the development of resource extraction, and the progression of urbanisation are evident. The visual impacts of these activities can be obscured by topography or vegetation; however, man-made noise is not so easily hidden.
Noise appears to be a more pervasive component of soundscapes, even in areas that are seemingly untouched. Since outdoor recreation, or 'friluftsliv', is an integral component of the Norwegian experience, both for residents and visitors, is a beautiful scenery sufficient to enjoy the outdoors? Or does the soundscape also influence our experience? Furthermore, many wild animals rely on sounds to sense their surroundings and to communicate.
