ISFiT presents: The Opening Day

The 9th of February marks the beginning of ISFIT 2017! Through 10 days of music, art, performance and debate, ISFiT will create an arena for entertainment, idea exchange and international cooperation. This diversity is exactly what makes ISFiT - ISFiT, and the opening day reflects this.

Join us for ten days without discrimination!

Here’s an overview about what happens during the festival’s first day.

Culture opening @ Tronheim's Main Square at 16:30

  • - Opening remarks from ISFiT president Kristine Bjartnes
  • - Performance by The Flying Seagull Project
  • - Speech by Kate Gilmore, the United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights
  • - Mini concert by Oakland Rain

The culture opening is free and open to all ages.

Opening of the art program of ISFiT 2017 @ Galleri KiT at 18:00

Door opens at 17:00

ISFiT’s art program consists of among other three separate exhibitions at Galleri KiT. On the opening day we will launch each three: MINA/MEG, Maze of Senses and Sami Art. The artist behind MINA/MEG, Ahmad Umar, will talk about the group expo at 18:00. There will also be a musical performance with Jeremy Dutcher at 18:30.

Discrimination, why? @ Dokkhuset at 19:00

The plenary sessions are an important part of ISFiT. We will kick it all off with a meeting with the theme discrimination and why it is so human to discriminate. We will, in other words, look at what discrimination is and why it occurs. The focus will be on the mechanisms behind discrimination, discriminatory practices, and how to battle these individually and structurally. With this as a base we have invited:

  • - Kate Gilmore (AUS), UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights
  • - Luca Dalen Espseth (NO), activist
  • - Arnt Holte (NO), Secretary-General of the Norwegian Blind Union
  • - Olga V. Lehmann (CO), NTNU PhD Candidate
  • - Maryam al-Khawaja (BH), Human Rights Activist

Age limit: 18

Free entrance.

King Skurk One & 612 - Visuals by ljos @ Dokkhuset at 23:00

ISFiT’s main theme “Discrimination, why?” will be conveyed in a collaboration between concerts and art. The Oslo based rappers King Skurk One and 612 will perform and artist Pekka Stokke from ljos will create a video backdrop by remixing old-school mashups of various grotesque, vulgar, and funny YouTube clips.

Age limit: 18

Oakland Rain @ Knaus at 23:59
