ISFiT: Sunday Cinema // Prinsen Kino

First, the short film “Iditsilba” (Burning Sun), a movie giving insight to the “church lords’” brutal treatment of the Sámi people in the 1700-1800’s. The other movie is “What will people say”, a movie about being pulled between two different cultures, and is Norways’ Oscar candidate in the category “Best foreign film”.

Also, to make the experience extra memorable, it will be possible to buy beer and wine to enjoy during the screening.

The screening will begin with a short talk from Monica Mecsei from the Department of Art and Media Studies at NTNU. She will give a short presentation of the movies and talk about their connection to the theme, migration.

Iditsilba (Elle Márjá Eira, Norway 2015)
Majjen carries a very special hat. All the women in her reindeer herder community wear one. Its shape resembles that of a horn. The hat is of great value for her, but the men representing the church think that the hat resembles the horn of the devil itself. Thus the hats must be extinguished.

What Will People Say (Iram Haq, Norway 2017)
Sixteen year-old Nisha lives a double life. At home with her family she is the perfect Pakistani daughter, but when out with her friends, she is a normal Norwegian teenager. When her father catches her in bed with her boyfriend, Nisha's two worlds brutally collide. To set an example, Nisha's parents decide to kidnap her and place her with relatives in Pakistan. Here, in a country she has never been to before, Nisha is forced to adapt to her parents' culture.
