KROKODILES // 23:59
Krokodiles is made up of two 19-year-olds, Liam Vilding (vocals/guitar) and Gaute Lykseth (guitar). They are joined in the band by Martin Ringerud (bass) and Ola Marius Undrum Grindbakken (drums) as permanent members. Doors open at 23:45.
Liam and Gaute met as 14-year-olds at a youth activity center in their hometown of Porsgrunn, and immediately bonded over a shared love of rapper Lil Peep. Shortly after, they discovered that they were both big fans of singer-songwriters like Elliot Smith and Phil Elverum, and Krokodiles was born.
A year later, at just 15 years old, they released their first release, the EP Skydiving. After two years of songwriting and performing in the Grenland area, they followed this up with the mini-album WILLOW TREE.
Since then, it’s been a fast track, and the band has now played at By:Larm and other festivals to glowing reviews, released the EP TELEVISION, and done support shows for both international and Norwegian heavyweights.
The music press has also taken notice of the band’s mature songwriting and atmospheric soundscapes, with both NRK P3 and Natt & Dag among the media outlets that have fallen in love with the young crocodiles.
Natt & Dag even describes their music as follows:
“That two 17-year-olds can make such beautiful and refined cozy songs is almost as unlikely as their melancholic hero, Elliot Smith, managing to stab himself in the heart and die from it. It just doesn’t make sense!”
This year’s By:Larm concert was described by the music blog TBA as follows: “In a time of musical abundance where ‘everything has been done before,’ Krokodiles present something that feels refreshingly independent and confident. They win with their understated, atmospheric sound, characterized by melancholic post-punk/rock and vocals that feel sincere.”
During the fall of 2024, Krokodiles will release a series of new singles, and in early 2025, they will embark on their first Norwegian tour, with stops in Oslo, Bergen, Porsgrunn, and Trondheim. More music can be expected next year, possibly even a debut album.
Doors open at 23:45.
