Espen Horne & Athletic Unit
Musician, DJ, and designer, Espen Horne has been organizing club nights and concert series since 1995, both locally and internationally. From Miles Ahead in Bergen and Jassbox at Grand in Bergen to Norway's Nasjonal Jazzscene, London’s Jazz Cafe, and Oslo’s Jazz på Munch, Horne’s events have captivated audiences across the globe. His own club night, Storviltjass, has made waves in cities like Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim, and even Henningsvær’s Trevarefabrikken.
Horne’s musical legacy includes several releases under pseudonyms such as Bobby Hughes Experience (1998), Bobby Hughes Combination (2003), and Kinny & Horne (2005). In 2023, he released The Anatomy Of Serene Eloquence under the London-based label *WahWah 45s. The album, created during the pandemic with contributions from local, national, and international musicians and vocalists, debuted on November 17, 2023, to wide critical acclaim.
The album has been warmly received, particularly in the UK, where tracks have been playlisted and featured by BBC legends like Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum. Known for its cross-generational appeal and genre-spanning brilliance, The Anatomy Of Serene Eloquence has wowed audiences during rare live shows and Storviltjass club nights. Horne’s ability to infuse jazz clubs with a vibrant, contemporary edge has made him a pioneer of the modern jazz scene.
