Metamorfose // Premiere

Metamorfose by Franz Kafka is an intense and disturbing tale about the conditions of love when a person loses their usefulness. Is it perhaps precisely when a person is treated least like a human being that they prove to be most human?

“When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin…”

Metamorfose is an intense and disturbing performance that takes you close to a family in disarray when the unthinkable happens. Overnight, life is turned upside down, and as Gregor gradually loses his footing in his own body, his family begins to see him as a burden, something that must be hidden, handled and cleared away. How long does love last when usefulness disappears? Is it perhaps precisely when a person is treated least like a human being that they prove to be most human?

Adapted for the stage by David Farr and Gisli Örn Gardarsson, translated by Øyvind Berg.

N.B. The play is in Norwegian.
