LEAH // 23:59
LEAH writes songs in a way that is entirely her own. With her pen, she brings out warmth, humour and surprises. Inspired by retro pop, scrappy jazz, yacht rock and solid Mjøsa funk, the music is both unique, innovative and catchy. The young and naive debut album Zzz received NOPA’s Blåtoneprisen composer award, took the band on more than 50 concerts across Norway, and earned praise from both audiences and the press.
The band is tailor-made – laid-back, explosive and playful – driven by a groovy rhythm section, a polished horn section, guitar solos to cry over and, yes, a keytar.
LEAH’s second album OK was released this spring, accompanied by a tour of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the UK, and presents a sudden coming of age. The long songs take you on a journey through love, nonsense, tragedies, highs, detours, speed bumps and much of what life has to offer.
LEAH is all about having fun, and they think you should do the same!
Leah Engevold – vocals and keytar
Kristina Fransson – trumpet
Emil Bø – trombone
Tevje Fjugstad Flaate – guitar
Henrik Bakka – bass
Halvor Dokke – drums
“LEAH is some of the most life-giving music I’ve experienced on a Norwegian stage in a long time.” – Audun Vinger, Jazz I Norge
“I’ve had the pleasure of hearing LEAH live, and it was a veritable kick of energy, punch, sheer joy of playing and vocal exuberance.” – Sidsel Endresen
