Dovregubbens Tjall // 23:59
Dovregubbens Tjall is a young, regressive rock band formed in Bergen in 2024. Tjall is fronted by vocalist Ingvar Krange, with lyrics that reek of partying, self-reproach, and love. Set against a backdrop of scrappy guitar music, the lyrics come together to form a whole that can hit mortal beings in unexpected ways.
On their debut album, Ingen grunn til bekymring, Tjall showcases a wide range, from aggressive “fuck you” punk songs to slow, Vreeswijk-esque ballads. It is easy to draw parallels to punk and rock bands of the past, such as Jokke & Valentinerne, Raga Rockers, and Wannskrækk. Yet the crude, sexualized, and banal elements of their lyrics are difficult to place without acknowledging that the band comes from a generation raised on russemusikk.
Still, it is live performances that Tjall truly lives for: Sweaty people. Mosh pits. Singalongs. Sneaky glances. Mass hypnosis. So, after setting both Bergen and Oslo ablaze time and time again, the band is now ready for Samfundet and Trondheim. Tjall is looking forward to seeing what is stirring in the city.
