Kjellerbandet honors Miles Davis and John Coltrane – 200 years!

Miles Davis and John Coltrane stand as two of the most outstanding and groundbreaking soloists and bandleaders in the history of jazz. Beyond their collaboration between 1955 and 1960—which yielded albums such as Kind of Blue and Milestones—they went their separate ways and achieved great success with their own respective bands: Miles Davis through numerous lineups and styles over the following decades, and John Coltrane with albums like A Love Supreme. Compositions by both artists have become staples of the jazz repertoire, with titles such as "So What" (Miles Davis) and "Giant Steps" (John Coltrane) serving as hallmarks for musicians and listeners alike. These two icons would have turned 100 in 2026—reason enough to honor their music.

Kjellerbandet is one of Musikerlåftet’s big bands; they play a varied repertoire, with a primary focus on jazz and swing. Established in 1977, the band is fast approaching its 50th anniversary but remains as vibrant as ever. This year, they are paying tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane on October 3rd at Skala.
