An Evening of Eccentricity: The Autumn Blót
This event will be in norwegian
This autumn, we invite you to an atmospheric evening of storytelling featuring fratricide and love triangles, accompanied by a taste of shark and warm refreshments made from this year’s autumn harvest.
In collaboration with Foreningen Norden and the Icelandic Association, we are organising Samfundet’s very first autumn blót!!
The evening will feature tales from Laxdæla saga, including stories of Ólaf Tryggvason and Kjartan, exploring pride and love!
Tonight, you’ll have the opportunity to silently offer your gratitude in honour of our ancestors, who were forced to abandon the blót rituals and their worship so that we could be here today. The blót we celebrate today is a tribute to them, and to the fact that the blót itself became the blót.
Joining us is Brynja Bjørk Birgisdottir from Trøndelag Folk Museum, who will introduce us to Nordic traditions, the origins of our Christmas traditions, and our duty to brew beer!
Adalheidur Magnusdottir and David from the Icelandic Association will take us on a journey through one of the greatest love tragedies in Nordic literature: Laxdæla saga. They’ll also tell us more about what a blót actually is.
The evening’s atmosphere will be set to music by a truly authentic Icelandic choir.
This informal and eccentric evening will leave everyone with a little blót for thought and awaken our curiosity about the ancient rituals we thought had died out.
There will be no sacrifices for us to offer (!!), but we will sacrifice a little of our time together, so that we may better understand the things we take for granted in everyday life.
So throw on your kúahúð (cowhide) and dig out your sheepskin rug – we’ll gather around the fire!
