Course in folk dance
Rakkarpakk
Rakkarpakk is a folk trio rooted in the vocal tradition of Norwegian traditional music. The group consists of Vera Sonne and Victoria Oftestad from Oslo, and Martin Steinum Brun from Vågå in Gudbrandsdalen. With a playful and narrative mode of expression, the group has established itself on the Norwegian folk scene, and has garnered particular attention through their sauna concert series KVADBAD, organized in collaboration with the Oslo Sauna Association. The group released its debut album in 2024, named after the same concert series.
Grannar Tre
Grannar Tre performs energetic folk dance music from norway with guitar, saxophone, and fiddle, blending traditional material with jazzy harmonies and rhythms.
Grannar Tre performs music inspired by the Norwegian tradition of folk music and consists of Lars Viljo Fauske, Ingrid Narum, and Edvard Kildahl. With backgrounds in jazz, they dress traditional music in a new guise, using smooth chord progressions and new rhythms. The trio performs music from all over the country, but has a particularly strong connection to Møre og Romsdal, Western Norway, and Trøndelag. They are also inspired by groups and artists such as The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, Ole Paus, and Valkyrien Allstars.
Kjeltring
The old folk musicians were the rock stars of their villages, they didn’t have bass, drums, sound systems and distortion. But Kjeltring does.
The trio of rogues from the Norwegian Academy of Music roots itself in traditional Norwegian fiddle music. The folk tradition is welded together with groovy bass lines, microtonal harmonies, mystical lyrics, hard rhythms and tight, rich vocal harmonies. A heavenly, or hellish, union.
The trio is now experimenting with an entirely new soundscape, new vocal-driven songs fuse old and new into a blend of personal, forward-looking lyrical and musical expressions. With one release under our belt are we gearing up for new musical adventures.
Events at the Student Society can be adapted for visitors with movement and hearing impairment. See here for more information.
