Honormeeting: Student rebellion!
It is set for another honor meeting in Storsalen at Studentersamfundet. As many have probably read in the papers or watched on the news, there are massive ongoing school protests in France, but this is not the only place where young people are protesting nowadays. Styret at Samfundet and ISFiT therefore invite you to a meeting to discuss student protests and rebellion across the world! The meeting will be held entirely in english.
2 years ago a train station collapsed in Novi Sad, Serbia and this led to the death of 16 people. The response was massive protests and demonstrations led by the students. And now the students are even challenging the current regime in the parliamentary election on Sunday October 25th with their own student party.
In Nicaragua, the students have protested against a corrupt and authoritarian regime since 2018. The students joined the protests when the military and police started attacking the peaceful protestors. Ever since then the protests have been bloody and brutal, and many students have been forced into exile from Nicaragua.
Now, we want to talk with people that have experienced these protests up close and personal in a panel discussion.
We are lucky enough to have Tijana Marjanovic come all the way from Serbia to speak about her own experiences with the protests, as well as the election that is ongoing. But thats not all, Elthon Rivera Cruz and Arlen Padilla Guerrero, former nicaraguan students and co-founders of IPEN, and organization that has fought for student rights in Nicaragua since 2018, will be attending the panel discussion. IPEN won the Student peace prize during ISFiT 2025.
During the meeting we will hear about the guests personal experiences with protesting and being a student having to fight for their own rights and against corruption at the same time. We will also broaden the perspective and discuss student protests and their role in politics more broadly.
